![]() He was late to work, and he lost his master key to the penthouse. Zimmerfield and Estevez immediately begin thinking Todd has something to do with the murder. It was like watching Schmidt and Jenko (played by Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill) from 21 Jump Street, except less on the funny side and more on the seriously strange and quirky side. Zimmerfield (or, as I affectionately came to call him, “Eyebrows”) was always correcting Estevez, and Estevez never skipped a beat correcting his mistake and moving forward with his questioning. They quickly became some of my favourite characters in this episode purely because of their interactions with one another. The dynamic between these two missing person detectives is absolutely something to behold. ![]() It was such a simple scene, almost something one could miss, but if you take note, you can’t help but applaud whoever came up with this idea. The image captured of the two detectives, Estevez and Zimmerfield, entering the two lobby doors (you know those swirly ones?) at exactly the same time walking with an air of confidence and ownership was brilliant. In this particular scene, the police have arrived (obviously to inspect the murder scene). I said earlier I wanted to discuss cinematography, and this is the perfect time to bring this up. Seriously, this guy is having one heck of a morning. His master key for the hotel goes missing, only to be then used by a man wearing a gorilla mask to access the penthouse where Patrick Spring (the torn up body from the beginning) was murdered. He sees his twin - no, lookalike? Or is it his extreme doppelgänger? - show up at the hotel moments before Todd himself finds the gruesome scene of torn bodies. He finds a blood-stained lottery ticket outside the murder scene. A corgi mysteriously pops up every time Todd rides the bus. Throughout the day, bizarre events take place. The problem is Todd already paid him, but then stole the money back to pay for his sister’s (Amanda) expensive medication. This hulking, screaming, hammer-wielding man wants his money, and damned if Todd is not going to pay for it. We are introduced to Todd who, unfortunately for him, is having his car beaten in by his landlord due to unpaid rent. What is going on here? Who was murdered and where in the hell did the kitten go? Amongst all this chaos is a solitary black kitten being picked up by an unknown arm. It’s like a skarknado has come tearing into the room and ripped the men apart (not to mention the really expensive-looking couch). As the scene pans out, we begin to notice that there is so much more going on here. Spoilers will be ahead.įrom the very beginning, we are thrust into a strange scene, a murder scene from the likes of a Quentin Tarantino movie. Spoilers! This is your final warning my doves. And what the hell is up with the corgi, the kitten, and creepy bald men?! Together, let’s piece the clues and see if we can’t (or can?) figure out the mystery of Dirk Gently and his bizarre world. If you haven’t had a chance to check out the first few episodes, then I suggest you do so because I want to discuss it all: the amazing writing, cinematography, the beyond brilliant acting. Starring Elijah Wood (those eyes *swoon*) as Todd Brotzman, an out-of-luck bell hop who seems to be losing it all when he stumbles into a strange man, Dirk Gently, and some even stranger circumstances. Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency is a new BBC show by the fabulous Max Landis, and with a tagline like “Everything is connected,” this comedic mystery certainly leaves you with many questions.
